Our God is a God of miracles. I have always had great faith in that statement, but now I am experiencing it first hand. I am so amazed at the way God's hand has been in every part of this accident. For those of you that might not know I crashed my car Thursday, Feb 25th. The first few minutes after impact were the scariest of my life, I could not catch my breath and I thought I was going die and I cried out to God for help. And help came. The young lady I almost hit stopped to make sure I was ok. She went over to the house across the street and got help. My car was smoking very badly and the man thought it was going to catch fire so they decided I should probably get out. The very nice lady from the house put me in her van so I could warm up and put frozen vegetables on my neck. You see the fact that I was alive was a miracle, I hit that tree going about 55 mph and the seat belt slid up around my neck, the second miracle was that it happened across the street from this house. The houses on that road are few and far between, so you see I could have been sitting for a long time without any help.
I never lost consciousness, which the doctor thought was amazing, so I at least had the presence of mind to ask the young lady to please get my phone and purse from the car. She called school for me and then the firetruck showed up. They put a collar around my neck and we waited for about 20 mins for the ambulance. Let me just tell you being strapped to that hard board and riding in the ambulance for 25 mins with no pain medication is not an experience I would like to repeat, ever.
We arrived at the hospital, they wheeled me in the room and started an IV and began to check me over. Lets just say you suffer many indignities in that situation. They had to cut off my new shirt, which made me laugh out loud. I think the nurse thought I was a little nuts, I explained to her that my best friend hated that shirt and so it was funny to me that I happened to be wearing it. They let me have my phone to let someone know what happened, Actually I think I held the phone the entire time I was there, you see I am bad with number so without it I have no link to the world. I called the church building expecting to get Crystal's strong mom voice and I get Sarah Parsons. My first thought was, oh no, how do I break the news to Sarah that I have been in an accident. Well somehow I managed and got Sarah to call Lisa at Pitsco. I was finishing that call as they wheeled me to x-ray. They rolled me from one hard board to another doing all sorts of x-rays and ct scans.
As they rolled me back in the room, my Dad and Lisa were there. There was an incredible sense of relief that came over me just knowing they were there. We had to wait an eternity for the doctor because he was waiting on the x-rays. My parents made phone calls updating everyone. They talked to me and tried to keep me from thinking about the fact that I was still lying on that hard board. I gave my information about a million times that morning. And then I heard weeping on the other side of the curtain. As if this situation wasn't bad enough, there was a deceased person on the other side. How horrible.
The doctor finally came in and gave us the low down on my condition. I had a fracture in my left leg, my L3 was swollen, the seat belt burned my neck and across my shoulder and there was something wrong with my neck but they needed further tests, and I was bruised badly on most of my body. They admitted me and sent me to a room where I finally got a comfy bed.
I know this sounds crazy but can I just say I had an incredible peace the entire time all of this was going on, I knew God was holding me in His hands. He is absolutely amazing. He is faithful even when we are not. He is a God of miracles and my life has definitely become one.
